Don't ask me what aff besseae \"Spider\" looks like. I have no idea, and the plant isn't telling. What I can tell you is that it's been productive this past year, throwing nicely-veined offspring, including a batch crossed onto (crystallinum x carlablackiae) that produced a plant or two prominent enough to have their own listing elsewhere on this site, still seedling-size but coming along.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe pollen parent is nigrolaminum \"Gigi,\" an undescribed species that came into trade out of Ecuadorian nurseries under the name sp. nov. Darien, which may or may not mean anything about where it actually grows. I love this plant, plainly and without embarrassment. It emerges black to maroon depending on the day, and holds deep red, blood-filled veins on the underside of the leaf when temperatures sit in the middle ground. Despite its waxy texture and its leaf shape, which doesn't look like it should get along with anything, it has proven remarkably promiscuous among the cardiolonchium species I've thrown at it.
