Mine came as a gift-cutting from a friend years ago and it's still on the bench, still earning its keep.

The pollen parent is the real draw for me. nigrolaminum "Gigi" is an undescribed species that came into trade through Ecuadorian nurseries, sometimes floated as sp. nov. Darien, which might mean a Darien gap origin or might mean nothing at all. Nobody seems to actually know where it comes from in the wild, myself included. What I do know is that it emerges black to maroon depending on ambient temps, and holds deep red, blood-filled veins on the underside when things are more moderate. It's also proven surprisingly promiscuous among section cardiolonchium species despite the waxy texture and odd leaf shape, which is how we ended up here. I love this plant, parent duties aside.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0567/1734/4823/files/b337ee22-3c94-40e5-801d-37e5fb29dbce.jpg?v=1784166705
