Amy is named for my mom, and she's proof that you shouldn't write off a plant just because it looks a little pedestrian at first glance. Her own parents, (crystallinum x magnificum) x (magnificum x nigrolaminum "Gigi"), are handsome enough but not the kind of thing you'd pick out of a lineup. Amy herself is the exception - strong primary venation against a dark green lamina, with margins that undulate in a way that caught my eye early. She wasn't bred for this. She just showed up that way, a naturally occurring selection out of my own growing efforts, and the IAS Cultivar Committee agreed she was worth naming.

The pollen parent I call long bess, because it's longer and narrower than the aff besseae you usually see traded around, likely a subtle hybrid rather than straight species. If you're noticing I have a habit of naming plants after their one distinguishing feature, you're not wrong. Putting these two together is a bit of a bet on quiet traits stacking up into something worth looking at twice.
