[(crystallinum x magnificum) x aff besseae] x ("Red Velvet Cake" x "Zara")

This one's a family reunion of sorts, at least in the greenhouse sense. The seed parent is one of my own - crystallinum x magnificum on one side, aff besseae on the other, a pairing that gave branched veins that almost but don't quite reach the margins. Handsome plant, and one I keep coming back to for further crosses. The pollen parent I paid too much for at a show a couple years back, out of a well-known booth. It sulked as a runt for the better part of a year before deciding to become a stunning mother plant, throwing emergent leaves that swing from soft pink-brown to something closer to arterial red depending on the day.

So this seedling has good genes on both ends: a proven breeder crossed onto a plant that took its time but earned its keep. No results to report yet, just the promise of two parents I already like a lot.
