papillilaminum "Colon" x carlablackiae OG1x5

The seed parent came to me from my friend Jill, a gift that helped me rebuild both materially and mentally after a rough 2024. "Colon pap" is a solid representation of the species, its name lifted from the Colón Province in Panama - one of those coastal paps from the Caribbean side of the continental divide, which seems to hold an outsized share of the genus's best offerings.

The pollen parent is an ecotype cross of carlablackiae from Scott Cohen, and it came to me by way of a small tragedy: I bought a seedling from Enid at NSE, killed it, complained about it, and she sent me this one out of pity. Most people chase the thinly-veined, muted carlablackiae, but I've always preferred this louder, thicker-veined version, named for Carla Black, a Heliconia person if I recall right. It's made some killer hybrids already, and this cross with the Colon pap is another shot at seeing what that vein pattern can do paired against a proven species parent.
