The seed parent is one of mine from a few years back, one of two I kept out of the batch, and I shared the rest widely at the IAS Expo in 2024 - if you picked one up there, say hello. The aff besseae in its background only shows up as the faintest suggestion of veining if you go looking for it. Otherwise it's all pap, all the time, and I mean that as a compliment.

The pollen parent, "Tropicarla," has a name I'm still proud of. I bought the plant from an Ecuadorian nursery at the tail end of a show, sold to me as seed grown. Once I got it home and looked closer, it was clearly divided at the stem instead - not enough there to make any real claim about wild origin, but enough to make me a little suspicious every time I look at it. I've got several flowering-size carlablackiae in the greenhouse now and I try to keep them straight in my head, which is how this one got its name: I was half-listening to a Rays broadcast one night, the announcer mentioned Tropicana Field, and something clicked. Tropicarla. Possibly my best one yet.

Put those two together and you get something a lot more coherent than anything I've written above. Enjoy the plant, and whatever it decides to pass along to its own seedlings.
