I don't have much to say about the seed parent beyond its name, so I'll let Tim Anderson's crystallinum x magnificum, folded into carlablackiae, speak for itself when it's ready to.

The pollen parent is the one with the story. "Ketchup Socks" is named for a joke made during a live sale, and I have MalMal to thank for the courage to actually put that name on a tag. Behind the silliness is a real plant: (red crystal x magnificum) x ("Greige" x red crystal), bred by Phil Iloo. It throws wonderfully red emergent leaves, and the anthocyanin doesn't rush off once the leaf hardens - it lingers in the venation. It's also bushier than most of the red crystal lineage plants I've got growing, which makes pulling offsets off of it a much less stressful affair. Whatever this cross gives us, I'm hoping some of that persistence and habit rides along.
