Wonder Boy A x ("Red Velvet Cake" x "Zara")

Two plants with a habit of throwing color, put together mostly to see what would happen. The seed parent came from Scott Cohen some years back, and whether it's true Wonder Boy material or a self of it, I honestly couldn't tell you - what I can tell you is that it hands its wondrous emergent shades down to its kids without fail, and it's got that Tim Anderson knack of turning obscure species inputs into something worth staring at. Large plant, vigorous plant, the kind you're glad took up bench space.

The pollen parent I paid more than I'd like to admit for, at the IAS Show and Sale in September 2023, out of Dr. Jeffrey Block's booth. It sat there sulking as a runt for a full year before deciding to grow, and now it's a proper mother plant, shifting its new leaf color from soft pink-brown to something closer to an open wound depending on the weather and the light. It's already made a name for itself in a few other crosses floating around here.

Put the two together and you get a seedling batch built entirely on the promise of emergent color, from two parents that both deliver it in their own way. Early days yet, but I like the odds.
