Wonder Boy A x (Red Velvet Cake x Zara)

I got the seed parent from Scott Cohen some years back, and to this day I couldn't tell you with certainty whether it's true Wonder Boy material or a self of it. Doesn't much matter. What it does, reliably, is throw wondrous emergent color onto its offspring, and it does so from a large, vigorous plant that carries Tim Anderson's long habit of building something remarkable out of species inputs nobody can quite name. That's the kind of lineage I like putting to work.

The pollen parent is the Red Velvet Cake x Zara I overpaid for at the IAS Show & Sale in September 2023, from Dr. Jeffrey Block's booth, because apparently that's what you did in 2023. It sulked as a runt for a full year before rewarding my babying with real growth, and it's since become a proper mother plant, swinging its emergent leaf color from a soft pink-brown to something closer to an arterial-wound red depending on the light and the temperature in the greenhouse. It's already made its way into a few other hybrids floating around here, so putting it onto Wonder Boy A felt less like a gamble and more like an overdue introduction.
